Manti Malietau Louis Te'o ( /ˈ mæ n. taɪ ˈ teɪ .oʊ /; born January 26, 1991) is an American collegiate football player. He is a linebacker at the University of Notre Dame . Growing up on the island of Oahu , he was one of the most decorated high school athletes in Hawaii's history. In 2008, Te'o won the inaugural high school Butkus Award , while also being named Sporting News High School Athlete of the Year . At the end of 2012, he won eight postseason awards, becoming one of the most decorated collegiate football players of all time.
