HO Scale 1/87 Dusty from sitting. This is a true hybrid. A Mantua GP20 shell mounted on a modified Athearn GP9 frame. (I was no fan of the Mantua powertrain so I junked it and made a dummy -unpowered- loco.) This rolls nicely with the old Athearn dummy wheelsets so it will make a quick and easy addition to your kodachrome painted fleet. Interestingly, Mantua really goofed up on this one. For instance, this came factory painted with the Santa Fe merger scheme yet they (incorrectly) painted the SF at the front of the long hood on both sides! Oops. (Maybe that S houldn't P aint S o F ast saying also applies to the Mantua paint shop!) Guys, ya gotta leave room for that SP somewhere when the merge (which the ICC put the kibosh on) goes through. That was easy to fix when I used some Microscale decals and gave this the full merger SPSF paint scheme. Note also I applied the full SPSF logo to the nose. Next, the road number. What were they thinking? Santa Fe didn't have a 7399 GP20. In fact I don't thing they ever had any steam or diesels numbered 7399. Even so, this goof up is interesting. Southern Pacific (the other half of the SPSF thing) did have a Kodachrome painted 7399. It was a SD44R (which I think was essentially a SD45 rebuilt with SD40 internals). The one and only.
