This extremely scarce original masonic book was written by Richard Carlile and first published in 1825 in "The Replican". Carlile was attemting to expose feemasonry, to reveal all the secrets of masonic rituals, the passwords & the signs, the book caused quite a stir and was banned in many places. Carlile described the rites of Freemasonry so accurately that later many lodges used this as a guide for thier own proceedings. This book became so popular it is still reprinted today. If you perform an internet search for Richard Carlile today, you will find only one of Carlile's many books is still in print today, his "Manual of Freemasonry" which first appeared in 1825 in a volume of his journal "The Republican," and was reprinted shortly afterwards as a separate publication and has remained in print ever since. This book was published by Carlile's Fleet Street publishing operation, which disappeared shortly after Carlile's death in 1843. FIRST EDITION THUS !!! Richard Carlile (9 December 1790 – 10 February 1843) was an important agitator for the establishment of universal suffrage and freedom of the press in the United Kingdom. Carlile had turned to radical publishing in his mid twenties and from whose premises at 55 Fleet Street (‘The Temple of Reason’), a steady stream of seditious literature emerged for many years. Carlile was prosecuted for blasphemy, blasphemous libel and sedition for publishing material in his newspaper, and for publishing Tom Paine's Common Sense, The Rights of Man and the Age of Reason (which criticised the Church of England). In October 1819 he was found guilty of blasphemy and seditious libel and sentenced to three years in Dorchester Gaol with a fine of £1,500. When he refused to pay the fine, his premises in Fleet Street were raided and his stock was confiscated. While he was in jail he continued to write articles for The Republican which was now published by Carlile's wife Jane, and thanks to the publicity it outsold pro-government newspapers such as The Times. is your chance to own an Authentic piece MASONIC of history, !!
