MANUSCRIPT COOKBOOK 1830-1850 A wonderful manuscript cookbook accomplished in a few different hands. Some of the earlier entries are dated 1831 and 1832 (approximately the first 40 leaves are in this hand). Then the hand switches with one of the entries dated Dublin March 1847. Approximately a hundred and fifty pages packed with manuscript recipes. The Dublin dated indicates Irish provenance. A number of the recipes are attributed by name -- "Mrs Burns", "Mrs Sutton" "Mrs Downing" and so on. Great insight into cooking of the period, recipes include "To pickle pork' "Strawberry Jam" "Lavender Water" Dandelion tea" "Rice and apple pudding"Damson cheese" "Quince marmelade"The poor man's cake" "apple puffs" "Turbot a la creme" "Italian salad "Polish baba" and numerous other entries. The "Italian" and "Polish" references may indicate midcentury mingling with a various immigrant populations. Contemporary boards, detached, quires no longer sewn together, some leaves loose. A fascinating early cookery manuscript with a rich history -- would make a wonderful addition to any antiquarian culinary collection. 4 dollar shipping USA and Canada, 12 dollars shipping to the rest of the world.
