An interesting vintage engraved map of Jerusalem titled "A Bird's Eye View of Ancient Jerusalem, Embracing a Minute Representation of this Sacred City." , published in Gleason's Pictorial in 1853. It is in very good condition and shows a remarkable view of the old city of Jerusalem with a numbered key identifying and locating over a hundred locations, geographic and Biblical, in and around the city, including all city gates, the Mount of Olives, Garden of Gethsemenae, David's Fortress, the Fish Market, Herod's Gate, the Tower of Hannah, the Brook of Kedron, Bethany, Spring of Siloa, the Chief Market, the House of Maccabeus, Foundation of the Temple, the Fore- Court of Israel, the Wine Press House, and many, many more sites. This is one of the most fascinating old maps I have come across. The top picture shows the overall map. The others show detailed views of sections of the map and the legend below the map. Each individual building is depicted. City streets, squares, market places, fountains, aqueducts, fountains, individual homes, and city walls are shown in remarkable detail. A unique map!This is a large double page engraving which measures approx.22 by 15 inches. There is a fold in the center, and the map will be shipped folded.
