MAP June 30, 1903 CHOCTAW INDIAN NATION - Indian Territory FIVE CIVILIZED TRIBESCoal and Asphalt Segregation Antique Map - CHOCTAW INDIAN NATION in INDIAN TERRITORY of the FIVE CIVILIZED TRIBES COAL AND ASPHALT SEGREGATION Really nice old RAREoriginal MAP portraying the Choctaw Indian Nation in Indian Territory of the Five Civilized Tribes: Coal and Asphalt Segregation, was compiled and drawn by R L McAlpine for the Tenth Annual Report of the Commission to the Five Civilized Tribes . The map, is in EXCELLENT condition for its age! with notation made that the lower external fold (the fold that is visible when the map is folded) is sunburnt. (See photo above.) Archival tape on the back of the map over the sunburnt folds to preserve and protect the integrity of the map, though no repair work was needed. The Map measures approximately 34" x 38.5" with no writing on the back. The paper is crisp and clean, medium grade parchment. A beautiful map suitable for framing, as well as a significant addition to your collection of historical significance . Map accompanied an official Document of the Senate, with limited distribution to Congress, Select Government Agencies, and Libraries. This is a very high quality lithograph with sharp, bright colors and delicate black lines. Varying line widths and colors create a geographical rendering, identifying by name and line design the Academies, Seminaries, Towns, Cities, Forts, Indian Territories with tribal designation, and Railroad Lines, as well as Bodies of Water including w applicable Lakes, Creeks, Rivers and Waterfalls. Significance is given to the Rivers, Creeks, Towns, and Railroad Lines including WESTERN OKLAHOMA RR; FORT SMITH AND WESTERN RR; SOUTHERN RR; POTEAU VALLEY RR; MISSOURI, KANSAS AND TEXAS RR; ARKANSAS AND CHOCTAW RR; WESTERN OKLAHOMA RR; and ST LOUIS AND SAN FRANCISCO GULF RR. Tracts of land distinguished by orange, red and green blocks. Grid-work on the map indicates Range 8 through 27 East; Townships 1 through 10 North, and 1 through 10 South; and a Standard Baseline Parallel with a First and Second Northern Standard Parallel and a First and Second Standard Parallel South; and Second through Sixth Guide Meridian East. In the upper left-hand corner above the map image is TENTH ANNUAL REPORT OF THE COMMISSION TO THE FIVE CIVILIZED TRIBES . In the upper right-hand corner is EXHIBIT 10. The bottom right hand corner immediately below encasement reads JULIUS BIEN & CO LITH . Within the map box in the upper left-hand corner, entitlement reads: Department of the Interior, Commission to the Five Civilized Tribes, MAP OF THE CHOCTAW NATION, Indian Territory , COAL AND ASPHALT SEGREGATION with explanatory coding as : Orange indicates Coal Segregations; Green indicates Asphalt Segregation; Scale of miles 1903; Portion shaded in red indicates Progress of Allotments April 15th to June 30th, 1903 . Boundary of the Choctaw Nation are indicated with Red River serving as southern boundary line between Choctaw Nation and Texas; the Canadian River is northwestern boundary between Creek Nation and Choctaw Nation and Arkansas River as boundary between Creek Nation and Cherokee Nation in the northeastern, and Chickasaw Nation is western boundary. The entire map is encased in multiple black lines. (See Photo) The number 9 is published on the back of the map. All of the above are clearly visible on the plates. Map is sealed in an archival clear-seal bag with hardboard backing to protect and preserve your investment.
