Fantastic Mappin & Webb hallmarked sterling condiment set in original presentation box. Five pieces are included in this set - shaker, salt cellar, covered mustard pot and 2 spoons (plus the box). The salt cellar & mustard pot each have cobalt glass inserts that sit inside the sterling frames. The edges of the glass are cut & polished. The inserts are slightly loose in the frames so that they can be safely removed for cleaning. Each of these sterling pieces are marked Mappin & Webb on the bottom and each has their stamped hallmark (Mn & Wb in a shield) plus the hallmarks of an anchor, lion and capital 'B'. These indicate that these pieces were made in Birmingham, England in 1951. The shaker is 3 1/4" tall; the salt cellar is 2 1/4" long x 1 1/8" tall; the mustard is 3" long including the handle and just under 2" tall to the top of the lid finial. The spoons are different shapes - one is for the salt (2 1/8" long) & one is for the mustard (2 1/2" long). They are stamped with the Adie Bros. hallmark and one has the anchor, lion & 'B' (1951) while the other has the anchor, lion & 'S', in a shield shape that indicates the year 1942. Mappin & Webb evidently used Adie Bros. silver spoons in their sets, as I have seen them in other sets selling on Ebay & other websites. So while I am confident that these spoons are original, I am at a loss to explain the different date hallmarks. The box measures 8 1/2" long x 4 1/4" wide x 2 1/2" deep. It is covered with textures black paper with a small gold design around the edge. The inside is lined with white silk and the pieces sit in black velvet covered board. 'Mappin & Webb Ltd. London' is stamped on the inside of the top of the box. Brass hinges & 2 little brass catches for closure. It is in excellent condition - slight bumps to corners is the only sign of use or age. Hinges are tight and closures work properly. This is a beautiful set in excellent condition - a few pin head dents and some polishing marks; the shaker has some light scratches & bears 3 of the pinhead dents. I couldn't photograph them and I want to be accurate. The little legs are all intact and have not been bent out of shape; the finials are great - not pushed in at all and the handle is perfect as well. I'd give this set an 8+ out of a 10 for condition.
