Some of the pictures are getting better, some not so much! I now have the camera Fred was using, but I don't have all the lighting he has. T is quite a learning curve on this camera, hopefully the pictures will get better. All of the knives I am posting are of the same high quality; the pictures are just not as good. Fred is still in the hospital in critical, but stable condition. -- JoAnn Cribley ABOUT THIS KNIFE: This 1999 limited edition of the classic Dall DeWeese design was handmade at the Marble's factory in Gladstone , Michigan . The fully-exposed tang cocobolo wood slab handle replicates the original knife that was designed by international sportsman Dall Deweese in 1907. This Imported cocobolo wood has a beautiful light and dark grain, it looks pretty close to the same on both sides. This DeWeese production #875 is a part of the Signature Series produced for Fred Trost's Practical Sportsman TV show. It has never been sold, carried, used or sharpened and comes with the original blade protector, leather sheath and collectible 1999 Marble's "bobcat" box. The sheaths supplied with this collector's edition are not as high a quality as the sheaths supplied for working field knives. The photographs are of the actual knife offered for sale. ABOUT THE LIMITED EDITION: This 1999 limited-edition Dall DeWeese hunting knife replicates the original DeWeese design that Webster Marble made in his Gladstone, Michigan factory from 1907 to 1931. An original DeWeese is one of the most collectible of the vintage Marble's designs bringing thousands of dollars for one in good condition. This edition was designed by master knife-maker Mike Stewart when he headed the knife division at Marble's, and is more true to the original design than recently-produced DeWeese knives made under the Marble's name that have stainless steel blades and thinner, cheaper handles. Stewart used the dimensions of the original handle which has the choil built into the cocobolo slabs and tang. This substantial handle gives you a better grip, more control, and has a great feel for a hunting or general camp knife. Stewart also eliminated the notches on the top of the blade to differentiate it from the original DeWeese. Notches weaken a blade by providing breaking points like pressure grooves in concrete. Only 1,425 of a planned edition of 1,500 were produced because of difficulties with materials. Hundreds were sold as collector's knives for $150.00 each as a fundraiser for Fred Trost's Practical Sportsman TV show on Michigan public television. Each blade is etched with its sequential production number and "original 1902 - 1907 Pattern", as well as with "Marble's Gladstone , MI U.S.A. " on the ricasso. The blades of the first 1,000 knives were etched with Fred Trost's signature and the Practical Sportsman logo; the blades numbered 1,001 to 1425 did not have the signature.
