This lot, A MARBLE CONSIGNMENT , consists of a 1" (25 mm) hand made "Shrunken Core Onionskin" (ca. 1850-1870) in Near Mint - (8.1) condition with a large subsurface moon/reflection and a few flakes, as well as overall wear and pinpricking (examined, as always, under 20-power magnification with strong lighting). It has a yellow with pink "skin" which is shrunken to essentially form a "Solid Core"; t is one area on which are trapped some pieces of debris associated with trapped air bubbles, and t are also a few (I count four) tiny mica flakes scattered about. The basal pontil is ground with faceting, a finishing technique associated with the earliest hand made glass marbles.
