This lot, A MARBLE CONSIGNMENT , consists of a 43/64" (17 mm) Akro Agate Co. "Printed Marble" (ca. mid-1930s) in Mint (9.4) condition (examined, as always, under 20-power magnification with strong lighting). It has "Bob" printed in red on a green on white "Corkscrew." This marble was printed by Howard E. Koehler in the period from 1935-1937, from a small advertising business he operated in western Pennsylvania. I met Mr. Koehler some years back, quite coincidentally, as he was the uncle of a good friend (Howard passed last year, well into his nineties), and learned that he was responsible for most, if not all, of the printed Akro Agate marbles known to collectors. I would like to apologize to all of you who have bid, or had planned to bid, on my auctions, only to have them abruptly end without explanation in the past week. The truth is that because I had jokingly stated that I accept "cold, hard cash," which I have just learned is a major offense on eBay, those auctions reported to eBay by one or more snitches with nothing better to do were pulled. Please rest assured that all will be up on eBay again later this week (probably on Friday), with the offending references to "cash" (and now apparently PayPal) removed.
