A beautiful composition with card table and black mandolin, set within a bar or saloon. Print edition: 63/875 signed at lower right; print size: 34" x 25". A few light marks are noted about the periphery of the print Biography: Marcel Mouly was born in Paris in 1918. Although he had an interest in drawing as a youth, he never pursued a career in art until he was arrested under suspicion of spying by the German Occupation Forces in 1942. During his confinement, he made the decision to pursue a career in art and secure his creative freedom forever. Upon his release, he met with Pignon and provided his first two paintings to the Salon d’Automne in Paris. From there his career took off encouraged and fostered by some of the greatest artists of the Century. His work was strongly influenced by Braque, Matisse and Picasso, with whom he walked as a young man in the halls of the French art academies. He befriended the great sculptor Jacques Lipchitz who became his mentor and influences his work through his approach to cubism. Mouly has achieved monumental
