Biography:Marcel Vertes: An outstanding twentieth century painter, printmaker and illustrator, Marcel Vertes moved from his native Hungary to Paris during the First World War. Living and working in the famous Latin Quarter, Vertes quickly established himself as one of the most important artists of the Paris scene, thus continuing in the footsteps of Boutet, Forain, Toulouse-Lautrec and others. The art of Marcel Vertes was at its peak during the vibrant and somewhat wild decade of the 1920's. Concentrating upon scenes of Paris street life, portrayals of women and depictions of circus and cabaret acts, Vertes left a legacy of original lithographs and drawings that superbly capture the spirit of 1920's Paris.Marcel Vertes is a highly collectible artist with auction records at ChristieÃ,Â's, SothebyÃ,Â's, etc. and with works selling at auction for over $27,500. (Poulain-Le Fur, 4/22/2001). This art work: Inkwash, Crayon and graphite on paper. "The Rendezvous" Originally drawn in 1935, was published in an article in Vanity Fair,1960, page 300; depicts the times, the dress, and the expressions of "Vanity" in the 30's. The wonderful mixed media is signed verso with an inscription of it's provenance with Vanity Fair, and also signed by what appears to be his wife in 1982. It is also signed and titled verso under the paper cover. Authenticity is Guaranteed. The original gallery tag is affixed, verso ( see photo ). Listed: All major art reference guides. HEIGHT: 9.25" x 5.5" plus the frame for an overall total of 14 3/4" x 10 1/2". The frame is original to the drawing and the paper cover, verso, is also original. CONDITION: As drawn with no distractions. The frame is tattered, but original. CIRCA: 1935 PHOTOGRAPHS: Art is photographed so you can see the details as best as possible.
