You are bidding on a porcelain yunomi from Minnesota ceramist Maren Kloppmann. (It was included in a 2004 exhibition at Greenwich House Pottery in New York City.) DESCRIPTION: This artfully conceived cup flares outward from a nicely turned foot ring before contracting into a delicate fine lip. It features two well placed patches of color- one black and the other auburn- set against a white porcelain clay body. (T are also areas of subtle pink and green blush from the firing.) The interior of the piece is glazed solid black. The yunomi stands 4 ½" h and measures 3 ½" at its widest. It is in mint condition- no chips, cracks or repairs- and is stamped by the potter. This is a no reserve auction. A BOUT MAREN KLOPPMANN: Maren Kloppmann was born in 1962 in Veerssen , Germany . She received her Journeyman Diploma from the Keramik Handwerkskammer ( Germany ) in 1984 before going on to attend the Kansas City Art Institute (B.F.A. Ceramics 1993) and the University of Minnesota (M.F.A. Ceramics 1996). She is now a full-time studio artist in Minneapolis . In 2002 she was the recipient of the McKnight Fellowship for Ceramic Artists and the Minnesota State Arts Board Career Opportunity Grant. In 2001, she was awarded the Minnesota State Arts Board Fellowship. As adjunct faculty, Ms. Kloppmann taught art history at the University of Wisconsin at River Falls (1999-2002) and is currently participating in the mentorship program at the Minnesota College of Art and Design. Her work has been exhibited nationally and internationally with solo exhibitions at galerie 15 in Munich , Germany , Red Star Studios in Kansas City , Missouri and at the Rochester Art Center in Rochester , Minnesota . Her work is in the permanent collections of the Minneapolis Institute of Art, the Weisman Art Museum , and the Northern Clay Center among others.
