Margaret Truman autograph! Official issue from the White House I am positive that this is authentic but, no, it as not been submitted to any of the authenticating services. However, I have no doubt and will GUARANTEE its authenticity. is how I know: This autograph comes from the one and only Rosemary Swartz collection . Ms. Swartz was a public schoolteacher in the small community of Lima, N.Y., in the 1930s probably into the early 1960s. She started a fun project for her students and her school. For many years running, Miss Swartz and her students sent letters to notable figures in the fields of government, entertainment, sports and military affairs seeking autographs for the school's collection. What she ended up with was a treasure trove of celebrity autographs , most of them on original letterheads/stationery or other paper products that verify their authenticity and give them considerable value. When the Lima Public School was shut down due to consolidation, the school allowed Miss Swartz to keep the autograph collection! We have purchased the entire collection intend to offer each item for sale on a one-by-one basis, so check "Seller's Other Items " frequently for your shots at J. Edgar Hoover, Bobby Kennedy, Walt Disney, Joe Louis, Mickey Cochrane, Eleanor Roosevelt, Wendell Wilkie and dozens more! These are great collectibles, well-preserved and quite valuable. Included in this auction is the official, signed card issued by the White House; a separate letter (dated) issued from Margaret Truman's secretary; and a public domain photo of President Harry Truman, First Lady Bess Truman and daughter Margaret Truman . You will probably want to create your own professional framing and preservation arrangement. In 1944 Truman christened the battleship USS Missouri which was named after her home state (when the ship was recommissioned in 1986 she was a featured speaker at the ceremony). Truman pursued a singing career during the late 1940s. After graduating from George Washington University and undergoing some operatic vocal training, she debuted in a radio broadcast of a vocal recital in March 1947. Following a performance in December 1950, Washington Post music critic Paul Hume wrote she was âeoeextremely attractive on the stage... [but] cannot sing very well. She is flat a good deal of the time.âe Her father (and president of the United States) Harry Truman wrote back to Hume, "I have never met you, but if I do you'll need a new nose and plenty of beefsteak and perhaps a supporter below." Years later she recalled, âeoeI thought it was funny. Sold tickets.âe [1] Truman's singing career was widely publicized during her father's presidency and the February 26, 1951 cover of Time Magazine carried an image of the president's daughter with a single musical note floating by her head.
