Description This 3D mixed media artwork pays tribute to Marilyn Monroe, actress, model, singer, and 1950s sex symbol. In it her public persona and tragic private life have been explored by the artist, Alan Derrick. ARTIST STATEMENT This artwork pays tribute to Marilyn Monroe. The final years of her life were marked by illness and personal problems. The public's fascination with her imagery made her a natural for one of my studies. In this piece, I have attempted to capture both her seductive public persona and the tragic private life she lived. TECHNIQUE This 3D pop artwork features layers of intricately cut steel mounted over a floating panel. The artist introduces visual depth to the piece by allowing each suspended layer to cast a shadow over the next. It is hand painted and signed by the artist to closely match the example pictured.
