The Battle for Iwo Jima Living History Box "Among the men who fought on Iwo Jima , uncommon valor was a common virtue." Fleet Admiral Chester W. Nimitz, USN, 16 March 1945 This Battle of Iwo Jima Living History Box is a special collection piece created by myself to give everyone a chance to touch and feel the volcanic sand of Iwo Jima . This is the same sand that was cursed by the Marines as they struggled to get across the beach during this epic battle. The sand is housed in a case that is made from rosewood. The rosewood case is sanded smooth to bring out the texture of this beautiful wood. It has a hinged lid with a small groove that allows easy opening of the box. Mounted on the center of the lid is the symbol of the finest fighting force the world has ever seen; The EAGLE, GLOBE & ANCHOR of the UNITED STATES MARINE CORPS. The approximate dimensions are 2 inches in length by 1 11/16 inches in width by 1 1/4 inches in height. On the outside lid is the Eagle, Globe and Anchor which is anodized brass and never needs polishing. Approximately three quarters of an ounce of sand from the island of Iwo Jima is provided. The sand is double bagged and all you have to do is open the bag and place the sand in the box. A signed numbered statement of authenticity with seal is provided.
