You are admiring a spectacular "lace coral" specimen, a species I have never seen before and is identified simply as Bryozoa Species (Retoporellina). This beauty measures a very large 104.2mm and is absolutely fantastic...it was collected at 20m off Liloan, Cebu, Philippines. Bryozoans are a colony of tiny animals which can grow up to 1m across and are described as "aquatic colonial" animals. T are well over 1000 species which most occur attached to hard subtrates. I have been doing some very interesting research on this family and it is fascinating. What an excellent addition for your Marine Life collection...I was only able to get a few. Thank you for visiting our store this evening...and an excellent choice, too. Habitat: Sheltered and moderately exposed reef; 3 - 20 m depth Distribution: WA to NSW and around Tasmania Maximum Size: Colony length to 160 mm Diet: Plankton (Filter feeders) Comments: This species is common in sheltered waters that are not turbid (stirred up).
