THIS IS A 3 DAY AUCTION NO RESERVE MUSEUM QUALITY The Most Beautiful Art Nouveau with a hint of Art Deco Gilt Dore Bronze or Possibly Brass Inkwell Inkstand I have ever seen. This Exquisite piece has 3 Strike Marks underneath the rim. Reading them right to left.... They are small and very hard to read but, I can definitely make out a W, some Initials, possibly a Date and what looks like could be a bird (something like WMF's Ostrich) without the legs so spread apart in the oval strike. The middle one is stippling of some sort, possible a head with some other tiny celestial or initials or some other kind of marks. The Third strike looks to be a B or an 8 but is struck in an imperfection of the casting that distorts it. I have had this piece since the 60's and bought it in an upscale Antique Shop. I misplaced it for awhile so it has not been cleaned except to get ready for eBay. Then I read up on Gilt / Dore Bronzes and got scared and quit trying to clean it. It could be brass but it does not smell like Brass. Don't you just hate the smell of Brass? The glass insert does not quite fit as shown in and out of several jpegs so I cannot say it is original but it is old and came with the inkwell when I purchased it. She measures approximately: 8.5" L x 4.5"H x 4.75" W at the longest, tallest and widest parts. I believe this has to come from Vienna Austria because of the W and the workmanship. Also examine the way each piece is marked with pinhole punch marks. The lid is also marked with 5 pinhole marks. I assume this was for assembly?
