MARKING GAGE, KREHLIK PATENT, COMBO GAGE AND COMPASS This is a marking gage that was patented by Albert Krehlik of Newburg City, OH on Dec 22, 1908 #907612. It is a combination marking gage and scriber or compass. The aluminum head is moved along the bar by an ingenious set of finger operated clamps that release or hold the head tight to the bar. The bar is steel, 7" long and has a circular notched scribing head on it. Attached to the head is a compass point attached by a wing nut. The only marks on the gage are "PAT'D 1908" inscribed on the finger clamps. During normal use as a gage the compass point is kept tucked in and the gage works as you would expect. To use the compass the head is released and the bar removed. A normal pencil is then inserted w the bar used to be and presto you have a compass. I suspect that very few carpenters needed , wanted or used this feature. Maybe that is why this gage was never a success. These Rube Goldberg type of tools are the ones I like. The ones that are so "far out" that you wonder, what was this person thinking. Did he actually believe this tool was going to be a best seller. Anyway this gage is very scarce. Apparently Milton Bacheller had no example to include in his American Marking Gage book. The condition of this gage is good and it is complete and operational. Unusual, good condition, complex and scarce, a nice combination for an antique tool. My E-Bay philosophy is simple, you are the customer and you decide how you want to handle the deal. I will go along with most anything as long as it is not too outrageous and you keep me informed. If it will be a few days before you get payment to me, no problem, just let me know so I will not worry about it being lost. I do not have any hard and fast time lines on what happens when. Normally I will get the package to the PO the day after I receive payment. If for some reason that will be delayed, I will let you know.As usual, you pay the shipping, insurance extra if desired. I personally recommend insurance if the item cost more than $100, but you decide. On most items I sell, I try to estimate the postage cost by USPS Priority Mail (my shipping method) and include that up front so you know exactly what the cost of the item will be. I'm usually within a couple of dollars of the correct cost depending on your zip code. Unless it is too heavy or too large I ship everything, everyw by USPS priority mail. I always declare the value on international orders at the exact invoice price. Never any crazy handling fees or ridiculous reserves.PayPal, money orders or checks accepted. Please allow a few days for checks if it is an expensive item. On most items I ship right away. So far all (well, most) of my dealings have been with nice, honest people. (As I would expect) . I always leave feedback up front, right after you have paid. Some vendors never leave feedback first, they wait till you have left it, that way if you leave bad feedback they can retaliate. I have talked with E-bay about this problem but they always duck the issue. Anyway, I always leave feedback first because I know t will be no problem with my items (or on the rare occasion t is, I will immediately resolve the problem). My satisfaction policy is also very simple, you are the customer and you decide if you want the item. Satisfaction guaranteed, no exception. Purchase may be returned for any reason or no reason within a week in original condition for a full refund. If it is something I did or failed to do I will also refund the postage. If you just changed your mind or found another one down the street, cheaper or better. I still accept returns except you should pay the postage. Are you interested in Old Tools and Tool Collecting?
