This is a rare bipod version of the famous Martian Big 4 tripod Crystal Radio Set. Most of these sets have three legs. Unfortunately, through the years, one of pot metal legs on this set has broken off and disappeared into times past.(see photos) The Martian Big 4 was first manufactured in 1923 by the Martian Manufacturing Co, founded by Mr. C. L. Marti. It has terminals for four headsets, hence the name Martian "4". The coil has some dents in its windings, cosmetic only, and not affecting operation.(see photos) The two remaining legs show some stress cracks as is typical with old pot metal. Other than the broken leg, this set is complete, all original, and in working condition. This set is fun to operate, although each headset added reduces the volume in the others. With a crutch, this set displays very well. I make every attempt to describe items completely and accurately, and to show any flaws clearly in the photographs.
