About the Guitar

You are looking at an absolute gem of a D28. This was purchased by myself from a friend who bought it on a trip to Washington DC in 2008 - he chose it at a store where there were 4 D28s for sale and this was obviously the best one! This is not a guitar that has been bought sight unseen from one of the boxshifters on the internet. There is huge variation in the quality of instruments and whilst this may come close to the price of a new one from an internet company it is a very special example of this classic guitar. Please bare in mind that when you buy a Martin from a company who receives hundreds a month, they do no more than just open the box to check it, the guitars never make it to a guitar hanger in a shop and so Martin does not need to send its best guitars to these companies because they won't be played before they're sold. I do not want to slag off the process but I know guitar dealers who actually have a store front who will send Martins back if they don't meet the standard, but some companies don't do that. I welcome any player to come and try this guitar out, you won't be disappointed.

The guitar is stamped Martin 1833-2008 175 Years and whilst this may not make it very different to any other year this could make it a decent investment grade instrument especially in this condition. I have shown this in the pictures - if you would like pictures of any other aspect of the guitar just give me a shout. Serial no. is available on request although please ask other questions about the guitar as I'm aware that some people ask for serial no.s for other more cynical reasons.

This guitar is absolutely mint. There is not a ding in sight. It has been absolutely babied by me and the previous owner but has been played in quite nicely. Sounds great. In fact, when I took it to be setup, Dan of Rowlands in Swansea was absolutely smitten with the guitar. I am selling as I only play classical these days and would like the money to buy a Contreras.

The woods on this example are stunning as I hope you will see from the photos. I have previously owned a 1974 version of this guitar which was lovely but the top was not as good as this one. The top is a quarter sawn and I have checked a resource which suggests it is AAA grade spruce - the definition being that it is quartersawn, i.e. the grain through the top is in entirely straight (see pictures near soundhole) and has 10 or more grains per inch or more.

It has been setup beautifully by Dan and plays very comfortably. In fact, I probably shouldn't be getting rid of this beauty but it is not receiving the amount of play that it deserves.

Comes with Martin case which has a couple of marks on it, but hey the case protects the guitar. I'm sure I will receive a couple of emails telling me that you can get a new Martin D28 for £1800 on the internet but if you want to take pot luck on a cheap example of a D28 go for it! I strongly believe, having played countless D28s and Martins, that this a stunning example and I am not in a hurry to sell so respectful enquiries only please. If you want to ask any questions please do so, and if you would like a trip to South Wales to try it out I am only half an hour from Cardiff which is well worth a visit for shopping, sports, cycling etc. By the way, this guitar is much better than my previous 74 example and is absolutely scratch and ding free - I don't like guitars with other peoples' battle scars on them and many people are the same as me - this guitar is really ready for its first owner, then you can feel ready to ding away!
