Mary Hardwick Autograph Wood Tennis Racket

Up for auction today is a WOODEN MARY HARDWICK AUTOGRAPH 'WILSON' TENNIS RACKET constructed of, I believe, American Ash. The racket size is unknown and according printing located just above the grip the racket has "Speed Flex" and a "Fibre Face". The leather grip appears to be original and is in good condition. The strings are old and one has snapped. There is some age related loss to the finish and there are scratches located at the top of the head of the racket.
RUTH MARY HARDWICK (HARE), born 08 Sep 1913, died 12 Dec 2001. Mary was born in Wimbledon, and until the last few years, never missed a day at the Championships. She never reached a Grand Slam final, but Gordon Lowe ranked her 8th in the world in 1939. Turning pro in 1941, Mary undertook many exhibition tours with Alice Marble, Tilden, Budge, and Riggs. She pioneered the Federation Cup, and is one of only two English women to have beaten the great Helen Wills in singles competition in England in the 1930's. In 1943, she married Charles Edgar Hare, the no 1 ranked British tennis player, who died several years ago.
