Magnificent and large antique covered soup tureen in ironstone china with beautiful chinoiserie designs from the firm of Ashworth Brothers in England.Design known to have originated by Masons in a pattern called Chinese Peony.Stunning ink transfers in dark blue on a cream ground of a large urn containing tree peony branches laiden with open blooms and oriental pheasants.Rich added blushes of deep rose,peach,green and rust and gold leaf accents to the handles and finial.Tureen measures 12 inches handle to handle and about 8 1/2 inches high.Lovely transfers of delicate floral vines on the inner rim of the bowl.Superb leaf and scroll finial and handles,the leaves sprawling along the surfaces and accented with gold.Side cut-out for a latge ladle on the lid.Well marked under the tureen base in transfer- printed blue.In very good condition,with light crazing to the glaze,visible on the underside of the bowl,some light rubbing to the added trim of the rim,and a faint 2 inch hairline on the rim of the lid that is mild and stable. A superbly designed soup tureen of grand size and stunning chinoiserie transfers in Mason`s Chinese Peony pattern.Produced by the firm of Ashworth Brothers in England,circa 1900.
