Massachusetts document dated August 1758 - signed by Benjamin Gorham (of Barnstable), concerning his account with the "Province of the Massachusetts Bay ,receiving payment for (in part): "to the Bileting 12 of Coll Winslows men by order 3 days + one half each at Barnstable", "to Bileting + transporting s'd 12 men to Boston being 5 days travel each makes 60 days in all", and "to 4 days ½ spent by warrant from Coll Otis to assist collecting deserters upon ye 26 of June last". Document is also signed on the front by John Phillips as Justice of the Peace , attesting that Benjamin Gorham personally appeared and made solemn oath before him. This is a rather nice document mentioning deserters and with rare references to BOTH Colonel John Winslow (later Brigadier General of Mass Militia during the F+I War) and to Colonel James Otis (Sr.) of Barnstable Please look at my other auctions!Size - 9" x 7" - two horizontal folds, minor wear and show through, o/w excellentIf you need more pictures or close ups, please let me know.
