And, this is the first edition. A very good accounting of the reaction to the beating ( or the caning) by Senator Brooks of South Carolina assualt on Senator Charles Sumner of Massachusetts. With a good account of Congressman Burlingame's belief that South Carolina contributed almost nothing to the American Revolution. Accounts of the bloodshed in the Kansas Territory, the slave-holders of the south, and that slavery is gradually spreading into the western territories.
