This auction is for a matched pair of very early Altec 128A power amps. They have very early serial #'s, # 128 & # 149. The tubes test excellent in my Western Electric KS-15750 tube tester. They sound excellent. They are in very nice condition, as you can see by the photos. A few years back I checked all the resistors and capacitors and replaced 3 coupling caps in each amp with vintage, new old stock parts. They have nice potted Peerless power and output transformers. Both amps are plug and play, set up with AC cords, RCA input jacks and binding posts for the speaker outputs. No holes were drilled in setting them up with the power cords or input & output connectors. Both amps have beautiful stepped DAVEN attenuators for the volume level. As to shipping, they have to be packed in two boxes, so you must double the amount for the shipping calculator below. All in all, this is an excellent sounding and looking pair of fairly rare vintage amps. is some information I cut & pasted from /members/view.php?item=2 Altec 128A amplifiers Thisis the latest version of Altec tube amplifiers to really be constructed with excellent quality like the Western Electric predecessors. They have a gray hammertone chassis contrasted with a green face plate, come with a tube test meter w/ light, and a stepped volume control, much like their big brother amplifiers, read more
