MATCHED SET FOUR 1888 ELECTRIC SHADE HOLDERS 2¼-INCH FITTER These four matched shade holders are stamped "PAT'D JULY 3. 88.", which refers to U. S. Patent No. 385,453 issued to inventors E. P. Gleason and E. F. Gennert (see photo of first patent page). E. P. Gleason was the founder of the E. P. Gleason Manufacturing Company, maker of gas and electric fixtures and fixture parts. This exact shade holder is offered in an E. P. Gleason catalog dated March 1888 (last photo), w the shade holder is shown as having "patent pending", as one would expect for a patent issued in July of 1888.These shade holders are made of thick brass and will support heavy shades, unlike the more common shade holders from the 1890s, which are made of very thin metal, and bend and crack easily.CONDITION: All four shade holders are in very good condition and have matching patinas. No damage that I can see. PayPal only. Will ship to U.S. addresses only. Priority Mail. Flat $5.00 shipping charge.
