RARE vintage sterling picture frame originally designed by William Spratling contemporary Matilde Poulat. This piece has extraordinary workmanship and a striking combination of colors. Poulat was one of the few women working in silversmithing from the 1930s until her death in 1960. Her nephew Ricardo Salas continued executing her designs and I believe from the mark that this piece was done by him. The mark says Mex-925 and MS-18. The mark normally says MS-12, and I was told that was the mark when I bought it years ago, but a look through my loupe tonight seems to show an 8 instead of a 2. I am confident this piece was made by the Poulat Salas family and that the new owner will love it. Heavy sterling weight, no damage, includes glass and plywood backing, both of which are often missing on these old pieces. The amethyst is lovely rich purple, a whopping 12 pieces! Coral is deep Mediterranean red, and the turquoise lovely natural shades of blue. Size is three and a half inches tall, three inches wide, photo space is two inches by one and a half inches. If you collect these frames, you know that they have been selling between $500 and $750 on e-bay the past few years; the buy it now price reflects the hurried downsizing I am doing to prepare for a major move. Please keep watching my Mexican and Navajo silver auctions. Also, review my feedback, including recent happy sales of wonderful collectibles I have lovingly amassed over the past 20 years. Insured priority domestic shipping on this piece will be $10. Paypal or money orders only. Thanks for looking!
