This is a very rare and very early quarter plate Matthew Brady daguerreotype. This type of case was used when he opened his gallery in 1844 on Broadway in New York city. The seals on the back of the image are an unusal aqua blue. The early hand cut mat and slight blue sheen to the plate further testifies to it's early origin. And the portrait itself is very pleasing. The lady has on an ornate hair braclet including a hair brooch. The gentleman eyes the camera with confidence and mystery. There is no identification to whom this couple is. But like most early Brady images there is a good chance they could indeed be identified. This image just recently came out of a southern estate. It has never before been offered. Investing in Matthew Brady images falls under the no brainer in reason of thought. This example is fresh, early and a Brady. Enough said.
