ANTIQUE MAUCHLINE WARE SPOOL HOLDER AND THREAD DISPENSER SEWING BOX. This box measures 3 3/4" in diameter. It stands 2 1/4" tall. This spool holding and thread dispensing box is a wonderful example of Scottish Mauchline Ware. T are six holes in the side of the box. Each one is labeled with a thread size--"36", "40", "50", "60", "70" and "80". Four of the holes have their original ivory guides, designed to keep the thread moving quickly without snagging, still inset in the holes. The other two have disappeared over time. We have found a small piece of antique ivory with a hole in the center, which could be used to replace the missing guides. It will be included with the box. A day of cutting and gluing will restore the box completely! The lid is original and fits snugly in place. Inside the box are 6 metal spindles to hold the spools in place. In the center is a place for one additional spool--probably an extra for the most used spool of thread in the box. The box is lined with the original dark blue paper. T are six spools of thread in the box. They are vintage, but not original. The outside of the lid of the box has a transferware picture. It is labeled "Drysburgh Abbey".
