This is a 3.5 inch baby that could be a Kestner. I have checked in the Foulke and Angione books and the nicely molded hair and painted features make it "almost" a sure thing. What intrigued me are the hands molded into fists with the little thumb showing. all the detailed painting point to a fine manufacturer. Some numerals are inside the legs but I could not make them out. He is marked Germany in lovely script that makes this a sure turn-of-the-century doll.i His little companion is a bit taller at 3.75 inches tall and shows all the chacteristics of the pre tinted dolls-mainly lack of paint. All that remains are the blue eye dots (note the contrast between the craftmanship in the two dolls) She is marked Germany 943 9 and the inside of her wire strung legs read 943 6. This mold of the torso might have come with straight legs. Unlike the boy she has more of a star fish appearance in her hands . All the little fingers are there but sadly her big toe on the left leg did not fare as well. it is missing. Otherwise both dolls are in excellent condition. Please ask questions as I may have overlooked something and there are no returns on these. The pictures are a part of the description. Payment is due 48 hours after the end of the auction.
