YOU ARE BIDING ON ONE ORIGINAL MAYO INDIAN PASCOLA MASK. THIS MASK WAS HAND CARVED OUT OF WOOD AND PAINTED BY A MAYO INDIAN FROM SONORA MEXICO, THE EYEBROWS AND BEARDS ARE CREATED BY INSERTING REAL HORSE HAIR INTO SMALL HOLES. YAQUI INDIANS CUT THE EYEBROW HAIR SHORT, WHILE THE MAYO INDIANS PREFER TO LEAVE IT LONG AND FLOWING. MASK IS ABOUT 7" LONG (NOT INCLUDING HAIR) AND 5" WIDE. A CROSS IS PAINTED ON THE FOREHEAD, SAID TO GIVE THE PASCOLA DANCER PROTECTION. THIS MASK IS TRADITIONAL IN FORM AND DESIGN, BUT NEVER USED IN A CEREMONIAL DANCE.
