This rare book is a must for anyone who collects Mazon Creek Fossils. The name of the book is The Wilmington Coal Flora From a Pennsylvania Deposit in Will County, Illinois. It is written by George Langford and was published in 1958 (second edition) by the Earth Science Club of Northern Illinois (Esconi Associates.) It is one of the great books used to identify the Flora Fossils found in the Mazon Creek area of Illinois. It is 360 pages and hardcovered. This particular book has some history attached to it , in that it has a letter taped on the inside cover from a Mr. Lawrance Bormford of Forest Grove, Oregon requesting this book from a Mr. Paul Leifheit of Yorville, Illinois whose name is stamped on the inside cover of the book. The letter is dated January 25, 1967. The letter includes the 5 cent Washington stamp and postmark. I don't know the significance, but an interesting piece of history. Some of the Contents include: Life Progress Through the Ages; Formation of Coal; The Wilmington (Illinois) Region; Strip Coal Mining; Collecting Spots; Coal Mining, Pit Sections; Fossil Collecting; Plant Impressions; Petrification; Calamites; Annularia; Asterophyllites; Pecopterides; Neuropteris; Cyclopteris; and MUCH, MUCH, MORE!!! T are between 100 -200 photographs and diagrams to help you identify your Mazon Creek Fossils. Email with questions. read more
