Up for auction is a (Nelson) McCoy Pottery Company of Roseville, Ohio (1910 to 1990), American Art Pottery, Arts and Crafts Style, (True) Stoneware, Jardiniere / Flower Pot-Vase with their Raised Leaves and Berries Design, Circa 1930's in a Matt Glaze Color Combination of Green over Brown in Mint Condition. If you collect early McCoy Art Pottery or any other Art Pottery, you just can't go wrong with acquiring this wonderful pot. This early McCoy piece goes back to the 1930's and McCoy's early art pottery days. During this time, as they did their best during an economic depression the company began to switch more and more of their pottery producing efforts away from utilitarian wares and focused more on commercial art pottery. During this period they also continued to use the same stoneware clay that was used to make jugs, crocks, churns and a whole myriad of other utilitarian products. By the early 1940's McCoy had directed so much of their manufacturing efforts toward commercial art pottery, you begin to see a change in the clays they were using. This early stoneware piece has the buff yellow clay that is so typical of Ohio stoneware and many companies continued its use rather than switching to a whiter commercial clay. Much like the Red Wing Potteries, Incorporated of Minnesota, the Nelson McCoy pottery actually had a bit of a read more
