For auction is this superb large bowl from Mdina, signed (etched) "Michael Harris Mdina glass Malta ". I have tried to photograph the signature properly but it is small and difficult to do. The piece measures 6" x 6" (appx. 60x60cm) and weighs a whopping 5.5lbs. The recent publication of Mdina and Isle of White Glass by Mark Hill (2006) has caused resurgence in the importance of Michael Harris' work and he is considered England 's first and foremost mid-century studio glass artist. Harris set up Mdina glass on the Island of Malta in 1968 and 4 years later founded the Isle of White Glass studio. The original pieces from Malta are very rare and highly sought after by collectors, especially pieces signed by Harris as he was very reluctant to do so and few ever turn up for public purchase. Recent auctions have brought over $2000.00 for these rare signed art pieces. While this bowl shape is not as flamboyant as the "Fish" vases and other designs, this very classic and beautifully executed piece will have lasting beauty to even the most discerning collector. The bowl is in excellent condition and is very evenly blown, having lovely swirls of brown/gold in a transparent yellow/green background looking much like sand swirling in the ocean tide (colors in photos are well represented). The theme of oceans and beaches are prevalent in Harris' work. Don't miss out on this chance to own a piece of British art glass history. I did not specify shipping charges outside USA in Original listing. Rates are from Ebay rate calculator which I do not understand. Most shipping to Europe $45.00Correct spelling in text is Isle of WIGHT.
