See the scans of the front and back. I just bought a fine, old collection of Boy Scouts of America medals and insignia. It included a number of the early contest medals. This is a second type BSA Handicraft contest medal in bronze. This series had nineteen different designs in three metals (gold colored, silver and bronze). The designs included archery, bridge building, bugling, camping, canoeing, cooking, field craft, firemaking, first aid, handicraft, knife and axe, knot tying, signaling with one scout, signaling with two scouts,swimming, tent pitching, tower building, track and wall scaling. They are all quite collectable. To cut the cost, the BSA went to a boring, generic design for Boy Scout contests and another plain design for Explorer contests in the 1950's, abandoning this great series of individual designs. The earlier medals had a red, white and blue ribbon, while the 1930's - 1940's awards had a solid blue ribbon. The earlier ones with their original RW&B ribbon are scarcer, as fewer were awarded. This is hallmarked with the official BSA logo on the bottom reverse. The bronze medal was the award for third place. This is an uncommon design. Generally XF+ condition. Original ribbon.
