A.F. RICHARDS. 1-LOND. R. It's in poor condition - there are surface scratches to both sides, a few edge ‘digs’ and three round marks ‘punched’ on the King’s face: apparently, the medal was worn on a fob chain for many years. Archibald Francis Richards was living at Upper Clapton in London when he enlisted. He initially served with the Royal West Kent Regiment (3564). He was killed in action (France & Flanders) on the 8 th October 1916, whilst serving with the 1 st (City of London ) Battalion of the London Regiment. Archibald Richards has no known grave and is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial. His Medal Index Card (photocopy supplied) shows entitlement to a British War Medal & Victory Medal pair.
