This is a really neat and unusual example of 19th century flatware- a medallion coin silver 3 tined pickle fork, circa 1870, made by the San Francisco firm of Schulz & Fischer. The piece is unmarked, having only the name "Vie" in period script on the reverse, but the style is unmistakably Schulz & Fischer. The medallion is of a classical helmeted warrior; the piece is in great conditon, with only minor wear; no dents, cracks or crimps, only some small scratches to the reverse and tines, and a few scattered nicks to the outer edges of the tines and one to the handle edge. The left tine is slightly larger than the other 2 and t seems to be a very small slope of the 3 tines, looking at the piece from the side; none of the tines appear bent or warped. The only real wear noted is to the area on the reverse w the piece rests on the table. The fork measures 6 1/4" long. The medallion image remains intact- the details of the face and helmet, as well as the stipple background remain sharp. A wonderful and somewhat uncommon piece of coin silver medallion ware to add to a collection. Thanks for looking! NO RESERVE. Email us with any questions. Please see our other current and upcoming auctions for other wonderful examples of quality 18th and 19th century American coin silver, as well as quality sterling flatware and holloware.
