Meerschaum is a soft white mineral, most often used to make smoking pipes. It is sometimes found floating on the Black Sea off the shores of Turkey and rather suggestive of sea-foam. Meerschaum tobacco pipes are exquisitely carved examples of the pipe maker's art and are highly valuable and collectible. When new, a meerschaum will be creamy white or bone colored. As the pipe is used, it acts as a natural filter for nicotine, and changes color from yellow to amber to a deep leathery brown. Today, all meerschaum pipes are made in Turkey. We are offering an excellent Meerschaum pipe that is in its natural state. It is shaped and polished but not carved with a figure of an animal or person and it is from an extreme quality block of meerschaum. It has been smoked and the stem shows minor wear but no discernible bite marks. This would be a great addition to any pipe collector’s display case. Thank You for Looking and Good Luck bidding.
