MEET THE SNJ-3 (RESTRICTED) -- US NAVY FLIGHT PREPARATORY SCHOOLS (Published by The Jam Handy Organization) This unique (original) manual on the SNJ-3 (North American "Texan") was made from a training film strip that was transposed to paper, thus becoming a handy - and portable - training manual for use in USN flight preparatory schools. In 1940, the Navy placed its first orders for the SNJ-3, which is similar to the Army Air Corps' AT-6A. This manual helped the Navy's fledgling pilots transition to the new 550 hp Pratt & Whitney powered trainer. The following statement at the end of the manual sums it up nicely: " When you have mastered this airplane, you will have much less difficulty with service-type airplanes. " Differences between the SNJ and the OS2U and SNC aircraft are also included. Judging it's condition rather harshly, I'd rate this manual as fair to good. All 121 pages are intact and legible, but t is light staining on most pages (more noticeable towards the end, although even then not a heavy stain), and signs on the first 45 pages of their having been separated from each other. It appears to me that something was spilled at one time and invaded the top and right sides. The good news is t is little - if any - noticeable effect on the pictures.
