This is a KILLER 10 million year old, CARCHAROCLES MEGALODON SHARK Tooth Fossil from South Carolina. It measures 2-11/16 inches long! It has VERY BEAUTIFUL, multi colored enamel! It is an impressive hand full to say the least! FANTASTIC Shape and COLOR! This tooth is a 100% guaranteed authentic fossil in it's natural state. T have been NO fillers and NO color added. This tooth was found while SCUBA diving in over 40 feet deep of some of the blackest and murkiest water you can imagine! Even with powerful lights you cannot see anything including your dive gauges! These teeth are found by feeling your way around on the bottom of a mucky, brackish water river w t are sting rays, sharks and even alligators! T are also very strong currents in these rivers that have claimed the lives of many very skilled SCUBA divers. Many people do not realize that most of the Carolina and other South Eastern U.S.A. teeth are found in rivers and NOT the ocean. This is due to the fact that millions of years ago the land we now stand on was covered by the sea w these teeth were buried by sand and silt and over millions of years, literally turned to stone. When the ocean receded, the rivers were formed by the ocean's tidal currents and water flowing down hill from mountains and eventually formed the coastal rivers we know today. T is a widely accepted theory in science of estimating the size of the Megalodon Shark by the diagonal length of its 4 upper front teeth. The diagonal length of a tooth is measured from the longest root corner to the tip of the tooth. This theory states that t would be approximately ten feet of shark for every one inch of tooth. This theory is based on what we know about Megalodon's distant cousin, the modern Great White Shark. This tooth measures 2-11/16 inches long which means the shark that once owned it would have been OVER 25 feet long!
