Ada Lum was a missionary in Hong Kong prior to and during the communist revolution in China. She created work for many refugees from the Mainland, making these Chinese cloth dolls. This one is called Mei-Mei or little sister and stands 15"s tall. She has been well cared for and is in excellent condition. Ada Lum dolls are recognizable because of the embroidered features on the face and particularly by the way the hands were constructed with seperate fingers and thumbs. There is no problem identifying this one , as she has an intact tag under her clothes, on her side seam which states that she is an Ada Lum creation. Beautifully kept vintage pre revolution costumed doll. These dolls capture typical Chinese dress prior to Mao, and therefore are a recording of Chinese culture and history. Excellent find.
