Meiji Era Antique Japanese Bodansu Height: 18 1/8"Width: 17 3/4"Depth: 11 1/8"This is a nicely sized Japanese hinoki wood bodansu with iron mounts. It has a beautiful aged reddish-brown patina, and smells of incense inside. The removable retaining bar (bo) protects two wide drawers. Its lock is present and slides, but has been disabled from locking. Below are two smaller drawers without locks. On the lower right corner t is a small "safe" door with lock behind which are two natural wood drawers. A handmade reproduction key is provided for this door. One of the larger drawers contains a kanji inscripton. This chest is dated to Meiji period (1868 - 1912). This information has been substantiated by an insurance valuation by Catologing by Columbus. The chest's replacement insurance value is was estimated at $1700.00. This chest has normal signs of use and wear, but no exception damage of any kind. The chest will be well packaged, and shipped within 3 business days of the auctions close. The above technical information was supplied by a 2005 appraisal by Catologing by Columbus ( / ) for insurance purposes.
