This is a very pretty and whimsical Meiji era Japanese Whist Marker set with Shibayama Inlay of little bugs. Shibayama utilizes Semi-precious stones inlayed into ivory on a Lacquered Wood base. Whist was a very popular card game for wealthy Japanese in the Victorian era (though I did play it with some Aussies in India so its still around). The markers are raised to keep track of points. All the markers do work, and you could use for your next Whist game, if you so desired. I have had it in a prominent spot in my cabinet. This piece displays fine inlay work. The condition overall is good, though it is missing some of the inlay bugs. This is a great useable piece of art from a bygone era. Please see pictures for additional items in my collection (especially the last picture) and e-mail me if you want me to post any other items on e-bay. I may put up more lacquer items later this week, so check back, or let me know if t are other pieces you want to see. To the best of my knowledge all my elephant ivory items are pre-ban I vory legally imported before the ban , (many dating to the 1800's or earlier) and will be sold in compliance with all laws governing the sale of ivory. As such they will only be shipped within the United States . Please do not ask me for international shipping quotes . As of the end of December e-bay will no longer
