Original 19th Century Japanese woodblock print *ARTIST: Tsukioka Yoshitoshi (1839-1892)
*SERIES: 100 Aspects of the Moon *TITLE: THE MOON OF THE MOOR *DATE PRINTED: May, 1888 (Meiji Period 21 year), publisher name and seal, etc.... at left side lower margin *SIZE: Oban (approx. 10"X15") *CONDITION: Excellent color, superb near mint condition, no tear, no repair, never been frame. Embossing on cartouche. Original meiji album backing. *SUBJECT: In the famous legend retold in both theater and dance, the courtier Fujiwara no Yasumasa (958-1036) was strolling home through the moor one evening playing his flute. A bandit named Hakamadare Yasusake crept up from behind intent on killing him for his fine robes. In moments, however, Hakamadare was mesmerized by the beautiful music and was unable to carry out the attack. *ESTIMATE PRICE: Similar original editions are regularly sold in the $650 - $2,000 range at auction and gallery My scanner is too small and I have to scarn the print's detail into two parts. The scanner presented the true color of the print (No color editing). The full size picture to prove no center fold line.
