English language. They are attractively bound in russet cloth with gilt printed spines and in a matching cloth slipcase. Included in vol II is an original portrait of H J Van Lennep author, with his cut signature dated 1866 beneath it. Title page is in pencil while the balance of the work is in pen. Vol I has an original group portrait of the 6 brothers and an original portrait of the author untitled. Tipped in family crest. Included is family tree of Peter van Lennep from 1778 to 1877. Entertainingly written it tells the tale of his life, his family and his travels throughout the Middle East- Smyrna, Syria, Turkey etc. Henry J. Van Lennep did a number of drawings and watercolors, particularly of Turkey, which are now in the Amherst College Archives & Special
