Another mempo from the same collection we are presently selling on eBay (t's one more on our website in the "helmets and masks" category). This one has nicely shaped cheeks in descending ripple effect, very flared nostrils and the nicest feature is the very long mustache which is original and made of yak's hair. When one removes the nose section which is held in place by pins, one sees that the mustache is actually in two sections with parts being on either side of the upper lip corners.Made of iron russet, it has a redish patina giving the effect that it is rusted but may actually have been lacquered and then de-lacquered.- It is signed Yoshikazu , whom we trace to the late 1700s/early 1800s of our Gregorian calendar with his son continuing into the late Edo era. This mempo, we feel was made in the early part of the 19th century, though some feel that it may be older. Knowing more about the person who made the mask would reveal more. SHIPPING: shipping costs included in the sale price.
