Meng 1/72 DS-003 Convair F-102A Delta Dagger (case x) The F-102 Delta Dagger entered service in 1956 and was the first Supersonic US fighter plane as well as the first US plane with a Delta Wing. It was designed without and guns, being armed with air to air rockets and 6 AIM-4 Falcon missiles. To reduce drag, the weapons were in a missile bay, much like a bomber's bomb bay. It served in the Vietnam war until 1968 but started to be replaced by the F-4 Phantom II during the mid - late 60's. It continued in service in the 1970's in the US Air National Guard and the then future US President G W Bush, served in the Texas ANG as a F-102 pilot. The F-102 also saw service with the air forces of Greece and turkey, retiring from active service in 1979. Meng Models are a brand new Chinese kit manufacturer, who first appeared in Europe at the IPMS UK National show at Telford 2012. They displayed several new kits in 1/72, 1/48 and 1/35, all of which looked to be of excellent quality with fine detail. This particular kit looks well detailed and well engineered. The Missile bay can be modelled open or closed and a full set of AIM-4 missiles are provided.Markings are provided for 3 planes including one in camouflage for the Vietnam war.
