Mercury Astronaut Scott Carpenter Autographed Suit Photograph! Mint! Scott Carpenter is one of the two surviving Mercury Seven Astronauts. A former Naval aviator, he was chosen from a list of hundreds of applicants to be an astronaut by NASA in April of 1959. Carpenter became the second American to orbit in space after John Glenn's historic flight in his Mercury capsule Aurora 7 on May 24, 1962. Problems during the re-entry caused the Mercury Capsule to land hundreds of miles off target. For several anxious minutes the world waited to see if Carpenter had survived the flight. After a frantic search by the recovery forces, Carpenter was found calmly floating in a life raft beside his capsule. Item is an 8 x 10" photograph of Carpenter being suited up in his silver pressure suit. The photograph is in MINT condition, no cuts, tears, folds or discolorations of any kind. Bid with confidence, I am a proud member of the Universal Autograph Collector's Club or UACC (and published, see May-June 2004 issue of Pen and Quill UACC's official publication).
