Beautiful majolica spoon rest with double Raffaellesco. manufactered by Meridiana Ceramiche hand painted made in Deruta, Italy marked Meridiana Ceramiche Made in Italy with globe symbol 10" long 4.5" diameter bowl white ground with cheerful yellows and blues Excellent used condition. No chips, cracks, crazing, repairs or stains. Because this ceramic is handmade and painted, it has the character of such. Errant brush strokes, pitting, pimples, glaze runs. 100% usable and does not detract from the beauty of the piece. A small amount of wear from being used on the unglazed rims on the bottom. See pictures for exact condition. The pictures are of the actual item. Classic Italian majolica pottery, featuring the enduring Deruta Raffaellesco pattern. Raffellesco is one of the most popular italian designs, based on frescos from the 16th century attributed to Raphael. It was created by Raffaello Sanzio and trademarked by Deruta. Raffaellesco is the benevolent and compassionate dragon that would grant good luck to sailing merchants. Majolica is low-fired earthenware that originated in Spain which became a standard process for ceramic production in Italy around the 16th century. Deruta is in the heart of Umbria, Italy and is famous for its ceramics.
